This isn’t exactly undergarments, but it sort of is?  Anyway, I love bathing suits.  And it’s always soooo hard to find the * right * bathing suit each summer.  I’m very sensitive about how my body looks in them and the sizes are never quite accurate to regular sizes.  So today I’m going to give you a few tips about bathing suit shopping and give you a few of my picks.  Before I begin, I want to start off by telling you that today I’m going to look at a couple of bikinis.  There will be more bathing suits profiled in the future.  Bikinis are not only for pencil thin girls.  I’d say as long as you don’t have rolls dripping off your body, there is a bikini out there for you if you’re patient enough to find it.  Furthermore, one-piece bathing suits are not always flattering on different body types.  Keep this in mind next time you gravitate toward the one-pieces.

First, bathing suit shopping.  How do you do it?  What’s the right way?  Sizes?  Fabric?  Cut?  What?  My brain explodes just thinking about it.  But do not fret!  I have a list for you to ponder before you go out shopping for the perfect bathing suit.  Moving onwards.

1.  Take your time when seeking out your ideal bathing suit.  It’s very much like shopping for bras; if you rush the process and place time constraints on yourself, you’ll end up buying something that wasn’t the one for you.

2.  Wear something easy to take off when going to try on bathing suits.  This will speed things up and take a lot of extra stress off your hands.

3.  Figure out which cut will look the best on you and what your goals are.  Visualize what you want before you go.  This will make your job easier.  I’ll give you some ideas in a little bit.

4.  You need a bathing suit for certain needs.  If you buy a skimpy bathing suit, be prepared for it not to work at a water park.  But if you really want a skimpy bathing, by all means find one that looks good on you. 

5.  Find a good mirror in the dressing room to examine what you look like in each bathing suit. 

6.  Don’t be afraid to buy bigger.  I’m the type of person who HATES having to buy a bigger size “I just know I am not”.  I know, I know.  It sucks, it’s demoralizing.  But in bathing suit world, everything seems to be built so darn small.  That’s why I highly recommend getting the size that looks good on you, regardless of what you usually wear.  And don’t be afraid to mix and match.  I have a smaller chest and a good size booty.  I often require two different sizes. 

7.  Do not think a one-piece is necessarily for you.

• Who would look good in this:   somebody with medium or small breasts.  I’m on the smaller side (B cups) and halter tops always make me look more amazing than I really am (in the breasts).  If you are really big-chested, you’ll have to take your chances.  If you have a bigger bum, I recommend probably getting a size bigger than you would usually get.
• The negative part:  with these bottoms, it’s best that you get a bikini wax.  It pretty much shows off a lot, so you’ll have to be mindful of it.

• Who this bikini is for:  somebody looking for a strapless top and not shy about hiding your cleavage.  This type of top looks great on somebody who is a little busty (I’m a b cup and these generally don’t look good on me).  The ruffle bottom can hide a little, which some people prefer.   This is excellent for somebody who may be a little bottom heavy and would like to hide that. 
• Bad side:  You’ll have to wax and be diligent about your bikini line area, but the ruffle will hide a bit more than other bottoms.

• Who is this for:  somebody who wants to hide their tummy or perhaps wear a more conservative looking bathing suit.  Somebody who enjoys the freedom of two pieces instead of being strapped into one.  Somebody who wants to hide their thighs.  Somebody who doesn’t want to worry about bathing suit bloopers and is looking for extra coverage.  This is by far a very practical bathing suit on many levels. 

To wrap things up for today, this is what we’ve learned:

• If you’re busty, strapless may not be the way to go. 
• Halter tops look great on almost everyone.  If you’re smaller-chested, halter tops can make you look bigger.
• If you don’t want to worry about waxing your bikini line, go with a bikini that has a skirt or longer boy shorts.  Alternatively, you could just buy a cover-up to go over any bikini. 
• If you want to hide your thighs, go for a bikini that has a skirt for bottoms
• If you want to hide your stomach, opt for a tankini
